Knoxville, TN · Plumbing
Scott's Plumbing Company is paying for Google Ads to show up — which means they already know visibility matters. But ads stop the moment the budget runs out. Ranking organically in the top 3 means capturing more than half of every plumbing search in Knoxville without paying per click. The fixes holding them back are straightforward, and solving them would mean more leads and more revenue on autopilot.
We audited Scott's Plumbing Company, a plumbing business serving Knoxville, Tennessee. At Tae Results, we help local businesses show up higher on Google so their phone rings more often. We started by Googling "Scott's Plumbing Company" to see what shows up. They rank first for their own business name with all their information showing cleanly on the first page. No other businesses are competing for the same name.
For the main keyword search — "plumber in Knoxville Tennessee" — Scott's Plumbing Company does not appear in the organic Google Maps results. However, they are running Google Ads and showing at the number 2 sponsored position. The difference between paid ads and organic SEO is significant: ads require ongoing capital and stop working the moment you stop paying. Organic SEO is a long-term investment that builds over time. Once Scott's Plumbing Company ranks in the top 3 organically, they would not need to spend on ads to be found for that keyword.
The top 3 organic businesses receive more than half of all clicks from people searching for plumbing services in Knoxville. Getting into those positions means capturing that traffic without paying per click.
Scott's Plumbing Company has 96 reviews with a 4.6-star rating. The review velocity is decent — they have some newer reviews coming in — but it would not be our highest priority to fix immediately. For home service businesses, we recommend aiming for 2–3 new reviews per week to maintain a consistent signal that the business is active and trusted.
Their photos are an area that needs attention. Scott's Plumbing Company does not have many photos on their GBP. Adding diverse photos — completed projects, before-and-after shots, team members at work, vehicles — builds trust with potential customers and increases engagement on the profile. Geotagging those photos with GPS coordinates from specific job locations helps Google associate the business with the areas it serves.
Their GBP category is set to just Plumber, which is exactly right. We recommend one primary category at most three, and Scott's Plumbing Company is not diluting their ranking signal here. This is a strength.
The biggest GBP gap is the services section. Scott's Plumbing Company does not appear to have any services listed. Google allows up to 99, and we recommend loading at least 30 with descriptions for the top 20. Every service added is a new keyword Google can match to customer searches. Someone looking for "new sewer installation Knoxville" will only find Scott's Plumbing Company through services, not through the category alone.
The booking link is set up and leads to their contact page, which is good. However, the Q&A / FAQ section is empty. Adding 5–10 common customer questions with clear answers builds trust and gives Google more keyword-rich content on the profile.
The title tag reads "Commercial and Residential Plumbing Services, Knoxville, Tennessee." This is functional — it includes the keyword and location. One improvement would be to add the business name. A format like "BEST Plumber Knoxville TN – Scott's Plumbing Company | Commercial & Residential Plumbing near me" would be stronger. Changing "plumbing" to "plumber" in the title may also help, since "plumber" is the more commonly searched keyword form.
The H1 tag is similar to the title and includes the keyword plus city, which is what we look for. Adding the business name to the H1 would strengthen brand association in search results.
The most impactful finding on the website is a NAP inconsistency. On the Google Business Profile, the suite number is listed as "#5" using the pound sign. On the website, it is written as "STE 5." This formatting difference creates uncertainty in Google's algorithm. We found the exact same type of issue in our Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Knoxville audit where "Drive" versus "DR" was costing them rankings. Additionally, the GBP shows "Drive" abbreviated as "D-R" while the website spells out "Drive." These small differences — pound versus STE, DR versus Drive — may seem trivial but Google treats NAP consistency as a trust signal. If the information does not match exactly across every platform, Google cannot be sure which version is correct, and that uncertainty costs rankings.
The fix is straightforward: pick the format that matches the GBP and use it identically on the website, Facebook, Yelp, BBB, and every other directory. This needs to be done everywhere, not just one platform.
Scott's Plumbing Company does not have a Google Map embedded on their website. Embedding the business location does two things — it gives visitors directions, and it sends Google another signal confirming the business's location. It takes two minutes to add and there is no reason not to have it.
The site has plenty of indexed pages — well over 50 — with dedicated service pages and area-specific content. This is one of Scott's Plumbing Company's biggest strengths. Because they have a page for "new sewer installation in Knoxville," they can compete for that specific search query. This level of content coverage puts them ahead of most competitors.
Website speed scored 88 on mobile, which is strong and above our 70+ threshold. Desktop is also above 70. There may be minor backend improvements possible, but speed is not a pressing concern for Scott's Plumbing Company.
The site has a valid SSL certificate (HTTPS).
Scott's Plumbing Company has LocalBusiness schema markup implemented on their website. This is notable — SMK Plumbing & Electric, for example, does not have schema at all, and it is one of the key differences in their technical SEO strength. This is notable — they are one of the few plumbing businesses in the Knoxville market we have audited that actually has this in place. Schema packages the business's key information in a structured format Google can read instantly, removing any guesswork about the business's identity and location. This is a genuine technical advantage.
Scott's Plumbing Company has citations on Yelp, Facebook, MapQuest, BBB, HomeAdvisor, and several other directories. They have the high-authority basics covered. Building out the citation profile further with Apple Business Connect, Bing Places, Nextdoor, and plumbing-specific directories would strengthen the trust signal, but the foundation is solid.
Scott's Plumbing Company has several genuine strengths that set them apart. They have LocalBusiness schema markup — something most competitors lack entirely. Their website has over 50 indexed pages with service-specific and area-specific content, which is excellent content coverage. Their GBP category is correctly set to just Plumber with no dilution. Website speed is strong on both mobile and desktop. They have SSL. They have a booking link set up. Their citation profile covers the major high-authority directories. And they are already investing in Google Ads for paid visibility while building their organic presence.
1. Fix the NAP inconsistency immediately. Choose one format — either "#5" or "STE 5," either "DR" or "Drive" — and make it identical to the GBP across the website, Facebook, Yelp, BBB, and every other listing. This is the single highest-impact fix because inconsistent NAP is currently undermining trust signals.
2. Load services into the Google Business Profile. Add at least 30 services with descriptions for the top 20. Scott's Plumbing Company has the content on their website but has not transferred those services into the GBP, which means Google cannot match them to searches directly from the profile.
3. Add more photos and geotag them. The current photo count is low. Upload diverse project photos, team shots, and before-and-after images. Geotag them with coordinates from specific Knoxville neighborhoods to reinforce geographic relevance.
Bonus: Add the business name to the title tag and H1, embed a Google Map on the website, populate the GBP Q&A section with 5–10 common questions, and continue building out the citation profile on additional directories.
