Knoxville, TN · Plumbing
Best Plumber is currently invisible in the organic Google Maps results for plumbing in Knoxville. That means every customer searching for a plumber right now — and more than half of them only click the top 3 — is calling someone else. They are spending money on Google Ads to compensate, but ads stop working the moment you stop paying. Ranking organically means leads that come in without a per-click cost.
We audited Best Plumber, a plumbing company in Knoxville, Tennessee. At Tae Results, we help local businesses show up higher on Google so their phone rings more often. In this audit, we looked at how Best Plumber appears on Google Search and Maps, reviewed their Google Business Profile, checked their website for SEO issues, and assessed their citation presence across the web.

We started by Googling "Best Plumber" to see what shows up. This business faces a unique challenge — their name is literally a keyword phrase that millions of people search. When someone types "best plumber" into Google, they are usually looking for top-rated plumbers in general, not this specific company. That means Best Plumber has an inherently high level of competition for their own business name. Despite that, their website does show up first when searching their exact company name, which is good.
They also have Google Ads running, which means they are investing in paid visibility. That is a valid short-to-medium-term strategy, but it requires ongoing capital. The long-term play is to rank organically in the top 3 so they would not need to rely on ads to be found.
For the main keyword search — "plumber in Knoxville Tennessee" — Best Plumber does not appear on the first page of the Google Maps results. They are essentially invisible to potential customers who are actively searching for the exact service they provide. The top 3 businesses in the map pack receive more than half of all clicks, so if Best Plumber is not showing up at all, they are losing leads to competitors every single day.
When it comes to reviews, we look at velocity over volume. A great example of why this matters: during another recent audit we conducted for a plumbing company in Knoxville, the number one ranked business only had 56 reviews while the number three ranked business had over 800. Total count alone does not determine rankings — the consistency and recency of reviews carry more weight. For home service businesses like Best Plumber, we recommend building a review system that generates at least 2–3 new Google reviews per week.
Best Plumber has professional photos on their GBP showing different types of projects, which is good for user engagement. The photos are diverse and genuine. One improvement would be to geotag photos with GPS coordinates from specific neighborhoods — for instance, if Best Plumber wants to attract more clients from Sequoyah Hills, the wealthier part of Knoxville, geotagging photos from that area can help reinforce geographic relevance in Google's eyes.
One of the strongest things we found is that Best Plumber actually has their services listed on their GBP. This is something the majority of businesses we audit have not done. They appear to have at least 30 services loaded, which is our minimum recommendation. The next step would be adding descriptions to the top 20 services to capture even more long-tail search queries — things like "toilet repair and installation Knoxville" or "emergency drain cleaning near me."
Their category is set to just Plumber, which is exactly right. We recommend one primary category at most three. Best Plumber is not diluting their ranking signal here. Their booking link is also set up, which reduces friction for potential customers contacting them directly through the GBP.
The Best Plumber website title tag reads "Plumbing Services for Knoxville Tennessee — Best Plumber." This is well-structured — it includes the primary keyword, the location, and the business name. We would not change this.
The H1 tag could be improved. It needs to include the keyword plus city to send a stronger relevance signal to Google. This is a simple edit that directly strengthens on-page SEO.
The most important finding on the website is a NAP inconsistency. On their Google Business Profile, the address is listed as "320 Nancy Lynn LN" with the suite shown as a pound sign. On their website, the suite number appears to be spelled out differently. This type of formatting mismatch — even something as small as "LN" versus "Lane" or "#" versus "Suite" — can create uncertainty in Google's algorithm. Google treats NAP consistency as a trust signal, and if the address does not match exactly across every platform, it can cost rankings. The fix is straightforward: pick one format that matches the GBP exactly and use it everywhere — the website footer, Facebook, Yelp, every directory listing.
Best Plumber has plenty of indexed pages with service-specific content. For example, they have a dedicated page for "toilet repairs and installation in Knoxville" — which means when someone searches that specific query, Best Plumber has a page ready to compete for it. They meet our 30-page minimum target comfortably.
Their website speed has room for improvement. This is a backend coding issue that would require looking at image compression, lazy loading, CSS/JS minification, and other technical optimizations. Speed is a confirmed Google ranking factor, and slow sites lose visitors — every second of loading time costs potential customers who hit back and call a competitor instead.
The site does have a valid SSL certificate (HTTPS). The schema markup situation is unclear and would need a closer look to confirm whether a proper LocalBusiness schema is implemented.
Citations are one area where Best Plumber has clear room for growth. When searching their business name, the results show competition from other companies and limited directory presence. They have Facebook but the broader citation profile appears thin. Building listings on high-authority directories — for context, SMK Plumbing & Electric has basic citations covered but similar gaps in Apple Maps and Bing Places. Building listings on directories like Yelp, Apple Business Connect, Bing Places, Nextdoor, Foursquare, Yellow Pages, BBB, and plumbing-specific directories would strengthen the trust signal Google uses to validate the business's legitimacy.
Best Plumber has several genuine strengths. Their GBP services section is actually filled out — something most businesses we audit have not done. Their category is set correctly without over-categorization. Their title tag is well-structured with keyword, location, and business name. They have a booking link set up for easy customer contact. Their photos are professional and diverse. They have Google Ads running for paid visibility while building organic presence. And they have plenty of indexed service pages on their website providing content coverage.
1. Fix the NAP inconsistency immediately. Make the address format identical across the GBP, website, and every directory listing. This is the highest-impact quick fix because inconsistent NAP directly undermines trust signals.
2. Add descriptions to the top 20 GBP services. Best Plumber already has the services loaded — they just need descriptions to fully capture those long-tail search queries. This is finishing a job that is already 70% done.
3. Build out the citation profile. Get listed on Apple Maps, Bing Places, Nextdoor, BBB, and plumbing-specific directories. Each consistent citation is another trust signal that strengthens rankings.
Bonus: Fix the H1 tag to include keyword plus city, improve website speed through backend optimization, geotag photos with coordinates from target neighborhoods like Sequoyah Hills, and confirm whether LocalBusiness schema is properly implemented.
