Knoxville, TN · Roofing
Mighty Dog Roofing of Knoxville is a franchise roofing business with brand recognition, a professional website, and several things already working in their favor. But when someone in Knoxville searches for a roofing contractor right now, Mighty Dog is sitting at number eleven. That is the first page — barely — but it is far from the top three where more than half of every customer click goes. The businesses in positions one through three are getting the calls. Mighty Dog is getting the leftovers. The good news is nothing here is broken. The website is solid, the page speed is good, and the GBP has a real foundation. What is holding them back is a set of specific, fixable gaps that add up.
We audited Mighty Dog Roofing of Knoxville, a roofing contractor serving Knoxville, Tennessee and the surrounding area. At Tae Results, we help local businesses show up higher on Google so their phone rings more often. In this audit, we looked at how Mighty Dog appears on Google Search and Maps, reviewed their Google Business Profile, checked their website, and assessed their citation presence.

We started by Googling their business name to check for brand competition. Mighty Dog Roofing of Knoxville owns their name search cleanly — no other businesses or pages are diluting their brand results on the first page. That is a clean starting point.
For the main keyword search — "roofing Knoxville" — Mighty Dog ranks eleventh. That puts them on the first page, which is better than most businesses we audit, but eleventh means they are at the very bottom. In a full engagement, we would run a grid search that maps out where they rank across specific coordinates — they might be fifth in one part of Knoxville and fifteenth in another — but the overall position of eleventh tells us they are close enough that focused optimization should push them into the top ten and eventually the top three.
Mighty Dog currently has three GBP categories: roofing contractor, siding contractor, and window installation service. Three is the maximum we recommend, but in most cases one is better. If siding and window installation are not primary revenue drivers, stripping those categories and keeping only "Roofing Contractor" would give Google a clearer signal about what the business actually does. The exception is when competitor benchmarking shows the top-ranking businesses in the area using multiple categories successfully — but as a general rule, clarity beats coverage.
Reviews need more velocity. Having a strong total count matters, but Google weighs recent reviews much more heavily than older ones. One review from last week carries more weight than ten reviews from a year ago. We recommend a system that consistently generates at least two to three new reviews per week. Not a one-time push, but a rhythm — a direct Google review link sent after every completed job. The businesses sitting in the top three for roofing in Knoxville almost always have stronger review velocity than the ones below them.
Photos could use attention. Mighty Dog has some photos but could benefit from more — completed roofing jobs, before-and-after shots, the crew at work, branded trucks and equipment. Every photo increases engagement from potential customers browsing the profile and sends activity signals to Google. Geotagging each photo with GPS coordinates from the job site helps with proximity-based searches. While geotagging is debated in the industry, we always recommend putting in the effort.
Services are in decent shape. It appears Mighty Dog has filled in at least 30 services with descriptions, which is what we recommend as a minimum. Google allows up to 99 service slots, and each one helps capture specific search queries that the primary category alone cannot. This is an area where Mighty Dog is ahead of many competitors.
The booking link is set up and functional, which is important — it reduces friction between someone finding the business and contacting them. However, the booking link currently lands on the homepage rather than the dedicated "Contact Us" page. This is a small fix worth making. Sending potential customers directly to the contact page removes an extra step and keeps the path from Google to conversion as short as possible. They also have a lead capture chat tool on their site, which is a strong addition. Similar to what we found in the Monster Tree Service of Knoxville audit, having multiple contact paths reduces the chance of losing a potential customer.
Beyond categories, services, and booking, we always recommend completing every single question and attribute Google asks. Each answer gives the algorithm more content to work with and increases the profile's trustworthiness. The GBP is the foundation — everything else Google does builds on top of it.
The title tag reads "Mighty Dog Roofing of Knoxville Roofing Contractor." This covers the essentials — the main keyword, business name, and service type. We would consider adding the city and secondary services to expand the keyword coverage, following the extended title tag format we use for clients.
The H1 tag is where there is room for improvement. While the page includes the city name and service keyword, the element that is actually coded as the H1 may not be the one containing the primary keyword plus city. For maximum on-page SEO impact, the H1 needs to explicitly include the main keyword and the city — something like "Roofing Contractor Knoxville TN." This is a small code change that directly tells Google what the page is about.
NAP consistency is handled well. The address spelling on the website matches the GBP — no "Lane" versus "Ln" discrepancies, no formatting mismatches. This is a common problem we find in many audits, including the Monster Tree Service audit where "Road" versus "Rd" was creating unnecessary doubt. Mighty Dog has this right.
One strong point is that Mighty Dog has Google Maps embedded directly on their website with their service areas visible. This is exactly what we recommend. Embedding Google Maps helps Google link the website and the Google Business Profile together, strengthening the proximity signal for local searches. Many businesses skip this — in the Archer Air Conditioning audit, a static map image was used instead of a live embed, which misses the proximity benefit entirely.
Indexed pages represent content opportunities. Every page that Google has indexed is a chance to rank for a specific search query. If someone searches "roofing services Oak Ridge Tennessee" and Mighty Dog has a dedicated page targeting that area, they can compete for that query. If the page does not exist or is not indexed, they cannot.
Mighty Dog has some indexed pages but there is room to build more. We recommend at least 30 indexed pages as a minimum, with a target of 50 — a mix of service-specific pages (roof repair, roof replacement, storm damage repair, gutter installation) and area-specific pages (Oak Ridge, Farragut, Maryville, Powell, Sevierville). Each page is a net cast into a different search query pool. The businesses ranking in the top three typically have significantly more indexed content than those ranked eleventh. This is likely where focused effort would have the biggest impact for Mighty Dog.
Page speed is a genuine strength. Mobile PageSpeed scored 78, which is above the 70 threshold we look for. Page speed is one of the few ranking factors Google has explicitly confirmed affects search position, and most businesses we audit score in the 50s. Mighty Dog's website code is clean enough to deliver strong performance without needing major backend optimization. This puts them ahead of businesses like Friendly Neighborhood Plumber (scored 54) and Archer Air Conditioning (scored 56–61) on this specific metric.
The site is SSL certified (HTTPS), which is a baseline requirement. They also have schema markup implemented — their business information is packaged in the structured data format that Google prefers, including address, name, phone number, and social media links. Having schema already in place is a significant technical advantage that most small businesses do not have.
Citations are mentions of your business on high-authority directories and websites. When Google sees your business information confirmed across multiple trusted platforms, it builds confidence that your listing is legitimate. The more consistent, high-quality citations you have, the stronger that trust signal becomes.
Mighty Dog has the basic citations covered — Yelp, HomeAdvisor, Angie's List, Bing, Google Maps, and Instagram are all in place. As a franchise, they likely benefit from some corporate-level citation building as well. But the basics are the starting line. We build citations across 49 high-quality directories for our clients, covering national platforms, niche-specific directories, and local community listings. Expanding beyond the basics is one of the most straightforward ways to strengthen the prominence signal that Google uses for map pack rankings.
Mighty Dog has a genuinely strong technical foundation. Their page speed is above threshold at 78 on mobile. They have schema markup implemented. They have SSL. They have Google Maps embedded on their website. Their NAP is consistent between their GBP and website. They have a booking link and a lead capture chat tool. Their GBP services section is filled out with descriptions. Their brand name search is clean. This is not a business starting from zero — this is a business that needs targeted optimization to move from eleventh to top three.
1. Build more indexed content pages. This is the biggest opportunity. Create dedicated service pages and area pages targeting specific queries like "roof repair Knoxville," "storm damage roofing Farragut," and "roofing contractor Oak Ridge." Aim for at least 30 indexed pages, ideally 50. Each page is a new opportunity to capture search traffic.
2. Increase review velocity. Implement a system for consistently getting two to three new Google reviews per week. A direct review link sent after every completed job keeps the rhythm going without requiring manual effort each time.
3. Streamline GBP categories. Consider stripping down to one primary category — "Roofing Contractor" — unless competitor benchmarking shows otherwise. Move siding and window services into the GBP services section where they can still capture queries without diluting the primary signal.
4. Fix the H1 tag. Make sure the actual H1 element in the website code includes the primary keyword plus city — "Roofing Contractor Knoxville TN" or similar. This is a small code change with a direct impact on how Google understands the page.
5. Change the booking link landing page. Point it to the "Contact Us" page instead of the homepage. Removes one step from the customer journey.
Bonus: Upload more geotagged photos regularly, expand citations beyond the basic directories, add the city to the title tag alongside secondary services, and complete every remaining GBP attribute and question.
