We started by Googling "J&J Professional Tree Service" to see what comes up. The good news is they rank first for their own business name, and their website, Facebook page, and Yelp listing all show on page one. That brand presence is solid.
Next, we searched "tree service in Knoxville TN" — the main keyword a customer would type when looking for a tree service in the area. J&J Professional Tree Service currently shows at approximately position 14 in the Google Maps results. They are not in the top 3 map pack, but they are indexed and showing, which means they have a foundation to build on. The top 3 competitors have significantly more reviews and more fully optimized profiles, which is a big part of why they are ranking higher.

However, the top competitors in the Knoxville tree service market have considerably more reviews — the top 3 have 297, 194, and 112 reviews respectively. The profile is also missing some completeness items including the Q&A / FAQ section and the booking link. Completing every field Google offers is a straightforward way to signal to the algorithm that this is a well-maintained, active business listing.

The H1 on the homepage is the business name — "J&J Professional Tree Service." For local SEO, we recommend the H1 include the primary keyword and city, something like "Tree Service Knoxville TN" to send a stronger relevance signal to Google.
We ran a site:knoxvilletreeservicecompany.com search and found 9 pages indexed. For a local business website to compete effectively, we recommend having at least 30 indexed pages. Those additional pages should include dedicated service pages for tree removal, tree trimming, stump grinding, land clearing, storm damage cleanup, and other offerings, along with area pages targeting specific neighborhoods and nearby towns the business serves. J&J Professional Tree Service currently has service pages for tree removal, tree pruning, land clearing, and tornado cleanup, but there is significant room for growth. Every service and every area they work in is a page that could be ranking and bringing in traffic.
One issue we want to flag is a NAP inconsistency with the phone number. The site does have an SSL certificate (HTTPS), which is a trust and ranking requirement Google has confirmed.
We ran the website through Google PageSpeed Insights. The mobile performance score came back at 90, which is strong — no issues there. The desktop score was 51, which has room for improvement. Common fixes include compressing images, enabling lazy loading, and minifying CSS and JavaScript files. While desktop speed is less critical than mobile for local search, it still contributes to overall site health.
We also checked for LocalBusiness schema markup using the Schema.org Validator. J&J Professional Tree Service does not currently have LocalBusiness schema implemented on their website. Schema markup packages the business's key information — name, address, phone number, services, hours — in a structured format that Google can read instantly rather than having to interpret from the page content. Adding LocalBusiness schema is one of the easiest technical wins in local SEO and can be done with a single code addition to the site. We see this gap across most businesses we audit — for comparison, Anthony's Hughes Tree & Stump Grinding is missing it as well.
Citations are mentions of a business's name, address, and phone number on trusted third-party platforms. When Google sees consistent business information confirmed across multiple directories, it builds a confidence score that strengthens the listing's legitimacy and ranking potential.
J&J Professional Tree Service has presence on Yelp (5.0 stars, 5 reviews), Facebook (330+ followers, 5.0 stars with 3 reviews), and their own website. However, there appear to be gaps in their directory coverage. We would recommend building citations across the standard tiers — Apple Business Connect, Bing Places, Nextdoor, Foursquare, Yellow Pages, and any tree service or contractor-specific directories relevant to the Knoxville market.
Not everything needs fixing. Here is what J&J Professional Tree Service is doing right. They rank first for their own business name with strong brand presence across the first page of Google. Their review rating of 4.9 stars across 61 reviews is excellent and builds trust with potential customers. Their photos are real, diverse, and show actual work — exactly what Google and customers want to see. Their GBP categories are appropriately set without over-categorization. The website has SSL, a strong domain name, and solid mobile page speed. They already have individual service pages for their core offerings, which puts them ahead of many competitors who only have a single homepage.
1. Fix the phone number inconsistency. Choose one primary number and make it identical on the website, Google Business Profile, Facebook, Yelp, and every other listing. NAP consistency is a foundational ranking factor, and having two different phone numbers is actively working against them.
2. Load services into the Google Business Profile. Add at least 30 services with descriptions for the top 20. This is one of the most underused features in local SEO and captures searches that competitors are missing entirely.
3. Build more indexed pages. Go from 9 pages to 30+ by creating dedicated service pages and area pages for the specific neighborhoods and surrounding towns J&J Professional Tree Service covers. Each new page is another opportunity to show up in search results for a relevant query.
Bonus: Add LocalBusiness schema to the website, embed a Google Map on the homepage or contact page, complete the GBP Q&A section with common customer questions, geotag all photos with location data, and build a review generation system to get 2–3 new reviews per week consistently.
